It's Blogging Season

I’m starting to understand how Leaf fans feel. To be sure we liberals haven’t wandered in the wastelands quite as long as the Leafs but given our lack of direction and recent events in our Quebec caucus, our prospects for the immediate future look equally bleak. Harper would love to see one of our suicidal non-confidence motions bring down his government and it’s a splendid irony that Layton’s NDP is thwarting his secret dream. The Conservatives can hardly break there own fixed election date law, again; they can’t even admit that they crave an election. Their very reasonable claim that this is no time for an election means they need help to be defeated, and Jack’s just not cooperating. But don’t underestimate the Machiavellian mind-set of the big blue machine. I’ve read that by imbedding some expression of support for the extension to Ontario and BC of the harmonized sales tax, in some otherwise innocuous bill, they might be able to manoeuvre the NDP into supporting a non-confidence vote. What will we Liberals do then? I’d be willing to bet that we either don’t show up for the vote or we abstain. ----AH
