Wednesday August 12, 2009 - Coffee on the Deck at 7:30 am

Our first few days featured a mix of weather but it now appears we are locked into day after day of brilliant sunshine - maybe we'll get a summer yet? We plan to be on the deck tonight for the Perseid meteor shower and the telescope is ready to be deployed for subsequent nights that will feature dark moonless skies, excellent for star gazing. I played golf with my brother Jimbo yesterday at Kerry Glenn - 49 for nine on a short but tricky track. I await word on my Dofasco buds on their regular Tuesday game at Sundrim. We have has two lengthy paddles in a canoe that is stable as a rock but cuts the water like a barge. Today we pick up our tandem kayak so that should extend our range and enjoyment in cruising the surrounding bays and inlets. As is normally the case up here, we are overwhelmed by the display of ostentatious wealth - there are now almost none of what we would have identified as cottages left on this lake. Some owners have been affected by the current economic situation but judjing by the limited number of For Sale signs, there doesn't seem to be any wide spread evidence of the recession up here. Pretty quiet on the political scene right now as our hard-working MP's and MPP's take a well-earned rest from picking our pockets. AH
