A Rebuttal to Dorsal’s History Lesson

Ha!

A couple of points to be made here: first, the whole rational for the involvement of the Governor General and / or other NGO’s in the awards process is to avoid a perception of political interference or influence. Can you imagine the kinds of awards the Conservatives would think appropriate given their philosophical perspective? How about:

• Jim Flaherty’s Award for “Excellence in Financial Fiction” bestowed personally by Jim and timed to coincide with the release his personal works of fiction, commonly referred to as “budgets.”

• Stephen Harper’s personal award for “Redacted Access to Information Reports Award”. This one goes to the PMO official that blacks out the most information in a requested report with a proviso that the number must exceed 90%.  And, the report must be delayed in issuance for at least 18 months.

• The John Baird award would go to the campaign organizer who intimidates the most undecided voters in his riding by erecting burning crosses on their lawns.

• And my personal favourite: The Stockwell Day award for “Christian Palaeontology”. This award goes to the scientist that provides proof that dinosaurs and humans roamed the earth together a mere 6000 years ago.

• And to cap off their awards list there must be a “Queen of the Tar Sands Award” but we’re not sure who will hand this one out as ministers handling this portfolio are shuffled too often to gain any public recognition. (mabe Rona – she was at least good looking) Anyway the award should go to the prettiest bikini clad girl in Fort McMurray that can swim from one side of a tailings pond to the other without touching a dead floating duck.

And I must admit that I am most impressed to learn yet another remarkable thing about my friend Dorsal. The fact that he received this prestigious award from a member of the NDP proves to me that underneath that crusty conservative shell lurks a left leaning spirit that will break out some day. As to Dorsal’s comments that I have some how made the Conservative attack ads look benign, let me just say that, while my party stakes out the high ground, I will fight a guerrilla campaign that will match the depravity of those adds insult for insult.
