Our New Contributor Speaks Out

Well welcome aboard Ian! ---- I should pint out Ian that in contributing to this Blog it is not always necessary to be contrarian. You could agree with the original author sometime. Having said that, it wouldn’t be very entertaining if we all agreed, would it?

The important thing is to support your thoughts with a credible argument and this you have certainly done to considerable effect. And I agree that you need to do your own homework on this or any other issue. However I can’t agree that service and repair beyond the basics is currently available to consumers outside of the dealer network. And, to what degree is the proprietary right of the OEM compromised by distributing the software necessary for diagnostic tests to legitimate auto repair shops? If your Acura was to start doing weird things tomorrow, would the shop that changes your oil be able to figure out the problem. The fact is that the technology has progressed to the point where “plug-in” diagnoses is the only way to determine what’s going on when a late model car goes wonky. If I spend Forty thousand dollars for a car I don’t want it to go with a life-time commitment to the dealer. It’s obvious that the powerful lobby of auto dealerships has gotten to Mr. Clement. ----------------------------- AH
